The Turkish Statistical Institute published house sales statistics for May 2021. According to the report, house sales in Turkey increased by 16.2% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and it was 59 thousand 166 houses were sold in total. Istanbul had the highest share in housing sales with 11 thousand 356 sales and total of 19.2% shares . According to the sales numbers, Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 5,653 house sales and had 9,6% share, Izmir with 3,298 house sales and had 5,6% share.
18,204 homes sold for the first time in May
The number of houses sold for the first time in Turkey increased by 8.0% in May compared to the same month of the previous year and was 18 thousand 204. The share of the first sale in total home sales was 30.8%. In the first sales, Istanbul had the highest share with 3 thousand 153 house sales and 17.3%, followed by Istanbul with one thousand 156 house sales and Izmir with 858 house sales.
1776 houses sold to foreigners in May 2021
House sales to foreigners increased by 106.5% compared to the same month of the previous year to 1776. In the sales of Housing to foreigners, Istanbul took the first place in May with the sale of 818 houses. Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 341 house sales, Ankara with 106 house sales, Mersin with 80 house sales and Sakarya with 75 house sales.
January-May period foreign housing sales increased by 24.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and it is 15.740.
Most housing sales were made to Iraqi citizens by country nationality
In May, Iraqi citizens bought 239 homes from Turkey. Iraqi citizens were followed, respectively, by Iran with 231 housing units, the Russian Federation with 119 housing units, Afghanistan with 98 housing units and Germany with 87 housing units.
