The procedure of getting Turkish Citizenship
There are 2 main ways to get Turkish citizenship.

By birth
You can get Turkish citizenship when one of your parents is a Turkish citizen. It is not important where you were born. On the other hand, when you were born in borders of Turkish Republic and also you don’t have any country, don’t have parents and can’t get citizenship by your country’s national laws; you can get Turkish citizenship.

Acquired
You can get citizenship acquired in 4 conditions.
First, you can get it in general by applying for citizenship and if government except for your application. In this term, you can get it by making investments or buying a house. Second, you can get it exceptional, means applying for citizenship by not suitable for all terms but you are an important person (artist, sportsman, etc.). Third, you can get it again, means you lost it and want to be a citizen again. Finally, you can get it by marriage with a Turkish citizen.
Who Can Apply to Get Turkish Citizenship?
- The people who lived in Turkey for 5 years continuous.
- The people who are married to a Turkish citizen for 3 years.
- The people who are not a danger of national security and social order.
- The people who make investments in industry or make extreme social, economic, sportive, cultural, scientific, technologic, artistic services.
- The people who can get a residence permit, his or her partner and they are under 18-year-old child.
- The people who are immigrant
Terms of Getting Turkish Citizenship
Before applying for a Turkish passport, you have to get Turkish citizenship. Here are the terms of applying for getting Turkish citizenship;
- You have to be an adult to your country’s law; if you don’t have any citizenship, you have to be 18+ years old and you can make your own decisions.
- You have to be lived in Turkey for 5 years continuous. You can take only 12 months totally and at least 6 months out of Turkey’s borders.
- You have to verify your emigrate request by your behaviors. (buying a house, getting in the business, married with a Turkish citizen, etc.)
- You don’t have a disease that affects common health.
- You have to be a good person.
- You have to talk Turkish which is enough for daily conversation.
- You have to get a job.
- You don’t have to be a danger of national security and social order.
Step by step Applying for A Turkish Passport
If you want to be applying for a Turkish passport, you have to be a Turkish citizen. Then you must choose the type of your passport. There are 4 types of passports in the Turkish Republic;
Green Passport
The people who are high degree government worker, bureaucrats can get a green passport. With this passport, you don’t have to pay visas fee includes Schengen countries.
Grey Passport
If the people who work in government, trip abroad because of a job, they have to use this passport.
Black Passport
It is a diplomatic passport. All ministers or mayors have to use this passport when they are in their positions.
Bordeaux Passport
This is a general use passport. Everybody excepts the people who described upside, have to use this passport for a trip abroad.
Here are the steps of applying for Turkish passport;
- You have to make an appointment in general Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs’ web site. On the other hand, you can get an appointment by calling 190.
- You have to collect some papers for your application which are;
- Turkish Republic identity card or the original copy of a temporary identity document
- The bank’s receipt of payment of passport fees
- 2 biometric photos
- Your old passport if you have
- You have to fill the application form and give the papers that you collect.
- Now you must wait 5-7 days if you are in Turkey, 7-10 days if you are in abroad. Your passport is delivered by post.

Here are the fees of a Turkish passport in 2019;
For 6 Mounty expiry date 303,50 Turkish Lira
For 1 Yearly expiry date 381,90 Turkish Lira
For 2 Yearly expiry date 539,00 Turkish Lira
For 3 Yearly expiry date 709,40 Turkish Lira
For 4+ Yearly expiry date 954,10 Turkish Lira
You have to pay one of these fees in one of the contractual banks.
